A Year Of Beats

This is an exercise in narcissism
But then you sort of knew that already because it's a blog, amirite?

I make music. I like writing songs and recording them. I like making beats, and I especially like recording interesting sounds.

This blog started out as a personal experiment to try and map my creative process over the course of a year. My goal was to post whatever I was working on, once a week, good or bad. So the theory goes, I could come back at the end of the year and gain insight into why I almost never actually finish a song. Or something.

Of course, it turned out that I didn't really want to post crap. I wanted to post good stuff, and I wanted to show that good stuff off to people and have them tell me how great I was for doing so. John Mayer calls that phenomenon "little applause hits", and he's right on the money.

That being said, let's face it, I'm a late 30-something father of two with a way-more-than-full-time day job, and I'm not queuing up to be the next big thing at Madison Square Garden. This stage is probably the biggest one I'll ever get, so I'm gonna play it like a penny slot machine.
